So thankful for my in-person PLN, Denise Lewis and Jennifer Carpenter. We have created a Wednesday PD ritual at Starbucks at 6am. It's the perfect time, really, to reflect and to plan. And to get the reality check we all desperately need.
We began with mutual admiration in our teaching careers at Woodstock Middle School. We recognized our common work ethic and our need to push beyond the norm, to reach higher. Denise and I have had these professional discussions since 2006, when I started teaching language arts with her at WMS. When I changed schools, Jen came into the mix, adding positive energy and keen scientific insight to our discussions.
Since then, we've all changed schools and jobs: both Denise and I are librarians; I've returned to WMS; and Jen is the middle school lead at our innovative alternative school. We hold each other up and hold each other accountable.
Ideas may go unsaid, but I often recognize their genesis in these morning PD gatherings. The commitment to excellence--towards challenging ourselves, our students, and our communities--drives us. We hold ourselves accountable here, recognizing where we rallied and where we faltered. We recognize that both are worthwhile, and we celebrate it all in this golden hour.
That said, here's my final plan for TRW 2015, as unwittingly filtered through my favorite PLN.
